Ferdinando Nicola Sacco (geboren 1891 in Torremaggiore, Foggia, Italien) und Bartholomeo Vanzetti (geboren 1888 in Villa Faletto, Cuneo, Italien) waren zwei italienisch-stämmige Immigranten und Arbeiter in den USA, wo sie sich der anarchistischen Arbeiterbewegung angeschlossen hatten. Sie wurden in der Nacht vom 23. August auf den 24. August 1927 im Staatsgefängnis von Charleston, Massachusetts/USA auf dem elektrischen Stuhl hingerichtet. Grund für die Hinrichtung war die Verurteilung für einen doppelten Raubmord. Die vom Gericht ausgesprochene Schuld der beiden Angeklagten an der Tat konnte nie vollständig geklärt werden, und ist bis in die Gegenwart umstritten. Das Todesurteil vom 14. Juli 1921 löste weltweit öffentliche Proteste aus. Bei verschiedenen internationalen Massendemonstrationen und in tausenden von Petitionen wurde der US-amerikanischen Justiz politische Voreingenommenheit vorgeworfen, unter anderem auch deshalb, weil der Schuldspruch auf fragwürdigen Indizien beruht habe und entlastende Hinweise unterdrückt worden seien. 1977 wurden sie posthum durch den Gouverneur von Massachusetts, Michael Dukakis, rehabilitiert.(Wikipedia).
