Zustand: good. viii, 227, [1] pages. Trade paperback. Illustrations Notes. Timeline. Glossary. Covers somewhat worn and soiled, underlining on p.107. Robert M. Hathaway is a Public Policy Fellow associated with the Asia Program at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, and is working on a book on the use of power in global politics, titled Leverage: Turning Power into Clout. He served as director of the Wilson Center's Asia Program from 1999 to 2014. Prior to joining the Wilson Center, he served for twelve years on the professional staff of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives, where he specialized in U.S. foreign policy toward Asia. Dr. Hathaway has also been a member of the History Staff of the Central Intelligence Agency, and has taught at George Washington University and at Barnard, Middlebury, and Wilson Colleges. He holds a Ph.D. in American Diplomatic History from the University of North Carolina. Hathaway's most recent book is New Security Challenges in Asia (Woodrow Wilson Center Press and Johns Hopkins University Press, 2013), co-edited with Michael Wills. Two other co-edited books focus on Pakistan: Empty Bellies, Broken Dreams: Food Insecurity and the Future of Pakistan (Vanguard Books, 2011) and Powering Pakistan: Meeting Pakistan's Energy Needs in the 21st Century (Oxford University Press, 2009). He has authored three other books as well as numerous articles on post-1933 U.S. foreign policy. Includes essays by a number of scholars, including Richard Baker, Evelyn Goh, Harry Harding, James Kelly, James Leach, Jonathan Pollack, and Nancy Tucker. When George W. Bush took office in January 2001, he gave little indication that he had a detailed Asia policy in mind; but has since acquired an extensive Asia sum. In this Asia Program report, essays by policymakers, scholars and foreign policy experts analyze the Bush administration's successes, failures, challenges and priorities in dealing with East and Southeast Asia. Contributors, from six countries, include James A. Kelly, assistant secretary of state for East Asian and Pacific Affairs during Bush's first term.
