In den WarenkorbHardcover. First Edition [stated]. [2], 265, [13] p. 29 cm. Illustrations, Maps, Portraits, Facsimiles. Chronology. References. Selected Bibliography. Index. This work addresses the tobacco experience in American from colonial times until the mid 20th century, with more than 300 illustrations. From an on-line obituary posting: "… Robert Karl Heimann, a retired chief executive of American Brands, died.He was 71 years old and lived in Riverside, Conn. A 1948 graduate of New York University with a Ph.D. in sociology, Mr. Heimann served as chairman and chief executive of American Brands from 1977 until his retirement in 1980. He had joined the company in 1954, when it was the American Tobacco Company. He was assistant to the president from 1961 to 1964 and produced studies that tried to show a correlation between the stress of urban living and lung cancer. He was named vice president for marketing and public relations in 1964, a year in which American Tobacco ceased its sponsorship of sports events on radio and television. ''As a result of the smoking-health controversy, we want to avoid any appearance of appealing to young people, '' he said in an interview at the time. He was named executive vice president in 1966, and in 1969, when American Tobacco changed its name to American Brands, he was named president and chief operating officer. In 1973 he became chairman, as well as president, and four years later assumed the title of chief executive officer." Very good in good dust jacket. DJ has small tear at back.

In den WarenkorbHardcover. Zustand: Very Good. Near Fine. First edition. Quarto. Stains on the foredge (looks like coffee), some splash marks on the front board else near very good in near fine dust jacket. Ownership signature of Draper Daniels, the legendary 20th Century advertising icon and model for the character "Don Draper" on AMC's *Madme…n* television series. A visionary in the world of modern advertising that came to fruition in the 1950's and 60's, he served as Creative Head of Leo Burnett advertising, where he was known for promoting branded characters including The Marlboro Man, the Jolly Green Giant, Elsie the Borden Cow, Charlie Tuna (Star Kist) and Tony the Tiger, among many others. Daniels would later leave Leo Burnett in favor of his own company, Draper Daniels, Inc., which he ran alongside his second wife, Myra Janco Daniels. In 1962, President John F. Kennedy appointed Daniels to the position of National Export Coordinator for the United States. A nice association exploring America's obsession with tobacco, which was enhanced by the blandishments of Draper's Marlboro Man.
