He worked as a civilian assistant to the industrial m…anager of the Navy Yard there for nearly a year and was commissioned a Navy officer in 1942. He retired as a lieutenant commander in 1964. He was president of the John Paul Jones chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution and had been treasurer of the Maryland State branch. He was also genealogist general of the national group. He published the first volume of the genealogy "Annapolis, Maryland Families" in 1979 and the second volume in 1989. Born in Hershey, Pa., he earned a bachelor's degree in education from Temple University in 1937 and a master's degree from the University of Vermont in 1941. ; Initialed note by author laid in the volume, Thomas genealogy pasted to front endpaper ; "The tracing of black genealogies poses serious additional problems. Since records for blacks are relatively scarce and often fragmentary, research has yielded but scant results. This unavoidable omission of black family history is regretted, since blacks have, generally, comprised about a third of the population of Annapolis." [!!] --from Volume 1 ; FINE.
