The book scrupulously covers the concept of mission and ecumenism of the Christian Conference of Asia (CCA) from 1957 to 2007. CCA is the foremost representative body of the Christian communities in Asia, and time and again stands for the socio-economic, political and cultural renewal of the Asians. The struggle for and attainment of stability by the people of Asia on different grounds has awakened the hitherto submerged peoples of Asia to a new sense of dignity. CCA has called the churches in Asia to be in unity, not only across different ecclesial and theological traditions, but also across national and political boundaries; religious, cultural and ethnic barriers; and socio-economic demarcations. Understanding the mission concept in a multi-cultural and post-colonial world means that mission must be seen in a multi-dimensional angle. In such a situation, CCA has been a vital instrument in bringing up the human communities in Asia, by strengthening ecumenical life at the local, national and regional levels thereby deciding the future of ecumenical life at the global level. The main feature of the Asian ecumenical movement through the life and work of the CCA is people-centered. Therefore, the church should play a decisive role in each society, according to the needs and necessities of the region. CCA clearly affirms that mission is the proclamation of the Gospel, to ecumenically address the issues and struggles of the communities based anywhere on Asian soil. To achieve this mission agenda, the Christian communities in Asia require ecumenical commitment and theological expression as against the traditional view of missiological articulation. The author strongly believes that the CCA could meet this requirement through its evolutionary understanding of mission. (jacket).

In the General Election of July 1852 the Peelite Gladstone defeated the Conservative Marsham, who had been put forward by 'the heads, Protestants and protectionists'. A reference to German education is a… nod towards the first Oxford University Commission, whose report published in 1852 recommended that a switch to a more Germanic educational system. (For the background see Brock and Curthoys, 'History of the University of Oxford', vol. 6 (1997).) Printed in black on one side of a 31 x 19 cm. piece of wove paper. In fair condition, lightly aged and worn. An announcement in the customary Victorian style of mixed typefaces and point sizes, with a series of 'advertisements' printed one above the other. At bottom right: 'Printed for the Authoress.' Begins: 'Mrs. Harris' Commemoration Advertiser, | The Perfect Substitute for Reform. | The Abolition of Dons: | A single Trial will convince the most incredulous. | The Metaphysical Syphonia, | Or invisible Wrapper, warranted Reason proof, and weighs nothing. | Apply to the Marines. | Il n'y a pas de prix fixe.' A number of quips follow, including a dig at 'the Proctors', a list of five 'Candidates for vacant Professorships' (the last: 'Practical Electioneering . All the Fellows of L*****n.'), a fake advertisement for a new book titled 'The Freshman's Vade-Mecum'. The next section refers to the recommendation of the Oxford University Commission, that the University follow the German mode of education: 'A Professor, | Not unequal, as he trusts, to the educational requirements of the 19th Century, has a vacancy for | One Pupil. | He engages that in six months his fond parents shall not know him from a GERMAN STUDENT. | N.B. A couple more joke announcements end the spoof. Presumably "Mrs Harris" is inspired by the non-appearing character in Dickens' "Martin Chuzzlewit". From the papers of Rev. Christmas 1869' at end, beginning 'Happy the gamester, on whose earliest throw, | Grim Fortune frowns, and cuts his treasure low; | But hapless…he, whom luck shall onward lure, | She only means to make his ruin sure.' Made for Sir Robert Joseph Phillimore, of the Courant, Henley on Thames, judge, Liberal MP and lifelong friend of Gladstone's. It does not appear that the verses have been printed elsewhere.
