B/w photographs and illustrations. Blue cloth, upper board and spine titled and decorated in gilt. 2s. 6d. End-papers browned, owner's names. Good copy in poor dust-wrapper. A compilation of nine pieces taken from other books. The subjects covered are cricket, rowing, rugby football, boxing, big game hunting, mountaineering, salmon fishing, fox hunting and otter hunting. Includes a glossary and a short section of questions on each chapter, indicating that this book was intended as a text for schoolboys. The piece on salmon fishing consists of a chapter entitled The Whustler from Trout Fishing by W. Earl Hodgson. Lattimer and Burns were the editors and compilers of the John Murray Modern English Series. They are not identified on the title-page, but an advertisement leaf at the front (reproduced on the dust-wrapper) lists the "Books For Prizes In The Modern English Series, Edited by R.B. Lattimer, M.A., and R.B. Morgan, M.A., M.Litt." The Preface is signed with their initials, R.B.L. and R.B.M. .
