Leinen / Cloth. Zustand: Gut. 494 p. Aus der Bibliothek von Prof. Wolfgang Haase, langjährigem Herausgeber der ANRW und des International Journal of the Classical Tradition (IJCT) / From the library of Prof. Wolfgang Haase, long-time editor of ANRW and the International Journal of the Classical Tradition (IJCT). - Einband berieb…en und bestoßen, stellenweise rissig, insgesamt vergilbt, sonst guter Zustand / Binding rubbed and bumped, cracked in places, yellowed overall, otherwise good condition. - INTRODUCTION: One hundred years ago in the city of Copenhagen there lived a man fantastic, eccentric in many of his ways and ideas, deeply sensitive and morally courageouswhom the English-speaking world is now coming to recognize as one of the most important literary figures of the nineteenth century and one of the greatest, most individual thinkers of all time. These are broad claims and they cannot be wholly substantiated by a book like the present one; a certain amount of evidence may, however, be presented for the benefit of those who would like this evidence collected in one volume rather than distributed over some two dozen. Such is the purpose of this anthology. Kierkegaards time has come; his position in the history of Western thought is in one sense assured. The past decade has seen the publication in English of all his major works, whereas not a single complete translation existed previously. He has been called the greatest Protestant Christian of the 19th century1 and the profoundest interpreter of the psychology of the religious life . . . since St. Augustine 2 (to quote only two appraisals out of many). Although the fourteenth edition of the Encyclopaedia Britannica has about 125 words on S.K., it may be assumed that the next edition will have several times as many, while the Communists have recently found him worthy of long and violent denunciation.
