A first edition of Robert Boyd Kidd's treatise on logic. Based on a lecture delivered to the members of the Mechanics Institute, Kidd elaborates on various philosophical topics such as logic, signs, proofs, syllogisms, and classification. The New Zealand born academic and headmaster received a doctorate of Law for this treatise. Prior owner's ink inscription to the front endpaper. The inscription reads 'Mr. D Saches. John Rhebon'. Rebound in a contemporary brown cloth binding. Externally, sound. Lightly rubbed to the boards. The spine is missing half a centimetre to the head of the spine, and is lightly bumped to the tail of the spine. There is a two-inch tear to the centre of the rear joint. The front hinge is starting, but firm, whilst the rear hinge is starting, and a little tender. Internally, generally firmly bound, although the gutter is visible between pages 24 and 25, 120 to 121, and 168 to 169. Pages are bright with light foxing throughout. Good. book.

Zustand: Good+ for Age. 1st ed. xii+348, substantially unopened; oval girdled motto 'Nil Mortalibus Arduum Est' on small label to front pastedown, a name in centre erased however, top quarter of front endpaper excised, two incipient gutter-openings internally but actually, being much unopened, text-block is quite tight; covers clean but spine ends quite rubbed and 2 x o.5 cm strip of cloth missing below gilt title along back edge, spine also a shade faded. Fairly uncommon and quite acceptable working/ reference copy.
