Wooden boards with tooled leather coverings and clasps after a period binding. Number 80 of 315 copies on Hadernpapier (cotton rag paper) (also 105 copies on Bütten or handmade paper in full leather). Virtually as new. In original box with cloth spine (lacking one closing flap at top of box). Collection of eight prophetic pamphlets from the time of the Reformation reproduced from a copy in the Preußiche Staatsbibliothek (Berlin State Library). Many woodblock illustrations, some in hand color. The library and its collections were heavily damaged in World War II, and it is likely that the originals of these pamphlets no longer exist. Freely, the German title translates as follows; Prophecies and Predictions / Past / Present / and Future Things / Fate and Fortune/ of High and Low Social Condition / For the Pious to Embrace and Comfort / for the Evil to Frighten and Warn / Announcing that the End is Coming. These pamphlets circulated and interpreted monstrous births and the like as signs and portents of terrible events. This copy, although not one of the 105 copies on handmade paper, is in the superior binding of full leather, not the usual vellum as in other copies currently on offer. It is in faultless condition, looking as fresh as when it was made.
