Jens Risom (1916-2016), was a Danish American furniture designer. An exemplar of Mid-Century modern design, Risom was one of the first designers to introduce Scandinavian design in the United States, first with Knoll and then with his own design and manufacturing firm. In the mid-1950s Risom, working with photographer Richard Avedon, launched an advertising campaign with the tagline "The Answer is Risom." This gem straight out of the late sixties office of Jens Risom is a three-ring vinyl binder measuring 11.5" x 10.5" x 2" containing not only annual catalogues and retail price lists but also some sales memoranda and occasional penned notations presumably by Anne Collier, presumably a sales-person, whose name is printed on the cover & penned on several pages within. More than two hundred pages, in various paper stocks, covering merchandise roughly 1961-67 when the company had moved primarily into office furniture: benches, ottomans, swivel chairs, cabinets, tables, "executive dining" sets, textiles, "check-writing desks", etc., our favorite being the "Secretarial units with or without "Modesty Panels" which protected views of the secretaries' legs. ?Risom?s interpretation of the executive look leaves no doubt as to who is in command." Pages are in Very Good condition while some of the tabbed thicker-stock section covers are a little worn around the ring-holes. Vinyl covers gently scuffed. Mostly b/w and some color images throughout. A special window into the world of office furniture design sixty years ago.
