Pp. xii, 400, adv. (4). With engraved front portrait. Original blue blind-pressed cloth, recased and rebacked with only parts of original spine preserved. Old ownership signature (Mrs. Smyth).Second, improved edition (first 1853) of a charming travelogue. The author was a Syrian Christian raised in Lebanon who gives an interesting account of life among the native Christian population in Lebanon. He also writes about travels into Syria, Palestine and Cyprus. "The work consists of a mixture of autobiographical anecdotes, travels, and information on Syria and Lebanon. There is also an amusing chapter on how a young Syrian sees England, plus a very interesting account of silk-worm culture". Binding rubbed and stained but internally fine. Cf Blackmer 1427.

"The author, a Christian Arab from Lebanon, gives a very interesting account of life among the native Christian population. The work consists of a mixture of autobiographical anecdotes, travels and information on Syria and Lebanon. There is also an amusing chapter on how a young Syrian sees England, plus a very interesting account of silk-worn culture" (Blackmer, 1427). - Minor wear to extremities of spine, corners slightly bumped, otherwise very good. - Cf.
