In den WarenkorbHardcover. Zustand: Fine. First Edition. Hardback. 4to pp 30. 1961 but actually 1963 From the edition of 200 copies, this being copy number 40 signed by John Mason. Original publisher's quarter velum lettered gilt at the spine over gilt lined marbled boards. Title page device and four full-page illustrations by Rigby Graham, the whole printed on thick handmade paper made - the publisher writes "Old bed sheets of several colours gave raw material for the paper, but the source of the supply cannot be disclosed." They were cut into small pieces, well wetted and left for a considerable time to rot. A very handsome edition despite the (rare) 'An APOLOGY' on a label pasted to the front pastedown and attractively printed - it states "This is not a successful piece of book production. One time it came near to being repulped. However we will persuaded, I still think against our better judgement, to let it stay. We do not expect to sell many copies but who can tell? Collectors will buy the bad as well as the good. In spite of the colophon it was NOT completed until 1963 and, also we used an adhesive binding for the spine and nNOT side stitching. Meliora videmus' ( We will see better things.) Fine. Signedes.
