Es wird ein mathematisches Modell vorgestellt, das die bei der FES relevanten Mechanismen des peripheren Nervensystems und Bewegungsapparates des menschlichen Beines beschreibt.Die Ergebnisse des Simulationsmodells werden mit experimentellen Untersuchungen verglichen. Das Modell ist in der Lage, die erzeugten Muskelkräfte und die daraus resultierendeBeinbewegung realitätsnah und personenspezifisch zu beschreiben und zu prädizieren. In verschiedenen Anwendungsbeispielen wird gezeigt, dass es sich als Werkzeug für die Entwicklung geregelter Neuroprothesen bei querschnittsgelähmten Patienten sehr gut eignet. Das Modell trägt ferner dazu bei, Bewegungen zu analysieren und neurophysiologische Vorgänge bei der FES besser zu verstehen.
