The strip portrays Mr. Abernathy seated in the back of his limousine buried in money. Several bills are drifting out the open window as Abernathy proclaims that this was the "Hottest poker night I ever had!!" The syndicate's credits are printed on a strip of paper mounted at the right edge of the last panel, with the date "2-25" penned to the left of the strip. Signed by Frank Ridgeway at the top corner. There is a light blue graphite tracing on the verso. Near fine. Created by Frank Ridgeway and Ralston Jones, the daily comic strip was first syndicated in 1957. Ridgeway continued the strip on his own after Ralston Jones retired in 1980. After studying at New York's Arts Student League and at the School of Visual Arts, Frank Ridgeway worked for Famous Studios as an animation storyman. He subsequently worked for Hanna-Barbera and DiC Entertainment. He and Jones created the "Mr. Abernathy" comic strip in 1957 with Ridgeway scripting and Jones drawing the strip. He continued the strip on his own when Jones retired. A teacher at the Famous Artists' School, Ridgeway also wrote scripts for the "Lancelot" daily comic strip and "Duck Tales" stories.

Hardcover. Zustand: Good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very good. First Edition. NY: Warner Books 1986, first edition, first printing. Hardback in good+ condition; mild color fade to top edge of covers, tiny bump at bottom of front cover. Price-clipped dust jacket is VG with a bit of edge wear, no rips or chips. 6.25 x 9.25 in., 336 pp. The first of the 'Seven Summits' books. This copy has a long inscription by Frank Wells & is signed by him ('Frank'), Dick Bass and Rick Ridgeway on the short title page. It is inscribed to Sally and Steve, and states that the preface of the book - titled 'A Personal Note' - is a "terrible lie - because it's an understatement!" In it, Steve Marts is lauded for his tireless work as climber and camera man. It seems very likely that the inscription is addressed to Steve Marts. Wells tragically died in a helicopter crash in 1994; copies signed by him are scarce. Signed by authors.
