Doyenne of the Kenya novelists, Riddell penned this "strong and moving story" (TLS) of ex-pat life in the Kenya Colony, first published in 1925 and here in the fifth printing (1941) of the cheap edition (1927). Scare with dust jacket in any edition, though this example looking more suitable for the 1920s than the 40s. A little light toning to stock and minor spotting to block edge, but internally all is clean and bright. Red cloth a little shelfworn and lightly bumped to corners. Good clipped d/j worn to edges, with some closed tears, toned and a little marked, moreso to spine. 12mo. 303pp.
