Reprinted from "Durham University journal," June 1933. 30 p.; 24.5 cm. `Pusey was therefore quite a pioneer, when in the Long Vacation of 1821 he went abroad for the first time, thus escaping the coronation of George IV, which gave him an opportunity of expressing strong Liberal opinions, and disgust with the restored regime in France. On his return he found that his parents were very hostile to his attachment to Miss Maria Barker, of Fairford Park. This domestic fiat caused a breakdown in health, severe headaches, which he was warned might be permanent, and a melancholy which lasted for six years. He began to read too hard, his only relaxation being hunting, and it was chiefly his friend Jelf's influence that prevented a serious collapse. In Easter, 1822, he obtained a first class in the Schools, Keble being his examiner in the viva voce. "I never knew," said Keble, "how Pindar might be put into English, until I heard Pusey construe him in his examination."'
