Number 152 of the 500 first issue hessian-bound copies, housed in a black slipcase. The book is introduced by J. M. Richards, a longstanding friend of Ravilious' and it was designed at the Royal College of Art by John Carrod. The Curwen Press printed the book on Basingwerk Parchment, using pale blue for the preliminary pages and the index, and cream for the 113 numbered leaves profusely filled with 421 Ravilious designs, three of these are folding pages, as are those containing the index at the rear. The cover features a design for a christmas card from 1934, and the image on the back board is from The Legion Book (1929), [xxiv], 113 leaves, [12]. First Limited Edition. Bound in hessian cloth with black illustrations and titles to boards and spine and illustrated endpapers. Folio 43 x 31 cm The book is in very good condition with a little toning to the spine and some very light pencil notes by a former owner to some pages and the index, otherwise exceptionally clean, binding firm and square.
