Zustand: Very good. Richard Waldrep--stamp illustrator (illustrator). Format is approximately 7.5 inches by 4.25 inches. The authorized gold stamp replica preserved in this cover is produced under a non-exclusive licensing agreement with the United States Postal Service. Stamp design is the copyright of the U.S. Postal Service. Cover design is the copyright of the Postal Commemorative Society. These statement are on the back of the envelop, along with a Celebrating the Century design and the U.S. Postal Service logo and statement that this is an Official Licensed Product. The front of the cover has a First Day of Issue cancelation of the President Theodore Roosevelt 32 cent stamp and a Celebrate the Century imprint below the stamp. On the left side there is a golden depiction of part of the Seal of the United States above a framed presentation of a golden version of the U.S. Postal Service stamp. This golden version is on a stiff card within the envelop. A portion of the front of the envelop is open so that the golden stamp is visible. There is also a stiff card associated with this First Day of Issue cover as part of the Celebrate the Century series. This has text on only one side which has information about the stamp, but mostly has summary information on President Theodore Roosevelt. PCS was founded as the Postal Commemorative Society in 1970, thanks to the success of the Moon Landing First Day Cover. Since then, PCS has offered a wide variety of First Day Covers and mint-condition stamps to customers. Collecting is a basic human instinct. Reasons for collecting include pride of ownership, increasing one's knowledge (learning through the stunning designs and artwork), personal pleasure, and the feeling of achievement upon completing a collection, knowing you are one of a small fraction of Americans who can make that claim. Celebrate the Century is the name of a series of postage stamps made by the United States Postal Service featuring images recalling various important events in the 20th century in the United States. Ten of these sheets were issued, with each sheet depicting events of one decade of the 20th century, from the 1900s to 1990s. Fifteen stamps were embedded into each sheet. For the first eight sheets (1900s to 1970s) of the fifteen stamps, one stamp of each sheet was printed using the intaglio process, while the remaining fourteen were offset printed along with the rest of the sheet. All the sheets were printed by the Ashton-Potter USA printing company. The stamp images for the first five sheets were selected by Citizens' Stamp Advisory Committee and those for the remaining five sheets were selected by a nationwide poll. As noted above, the Postal Commemorative Society produced under a non-exclusive license First Day Covers that also included a golden replica of the issued stamp. Envelope--First Day of Issue Cover with associated text Presumed First Edition, First issue thus.

Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. No Jacket. First American Edition. Xii, 244 Pp. Black Cloth, Paper Spine Label Printed In Black. First American Printing. Light Usage, Spine Label With Wear, Browning, And Small Edge Chips Not Affecting The Lettering. Front Flap Of Red Dust Jacket Attached To Front Free Endpaper. Title Page With Blindstamped Name Of Otto F. Kraushaar, President Of Goucher College. A Major And Pessimistic Criticism Of Intellectuals Aka Leaders In Every Serious Field, Particularly The Previous Fifty Years. A "Printing And The Mind Of Man" Title, #419, Remarkable Not Just For Its Intelligent And Articulate Criticism Of Their Moral Failings In What They Did Or Failed To Do, But Because It May Also Be Taken As An Indictment Of The Entire Intellectual Establishment And The Classes Which Populate It. It Demonstrates Not Just Their Particularized Faults And Deficiencies As Intellectuals, But Also Their Lack Of Leadership In Public Discussion Of What Is Important For Society. He Shows The Lack Of Capability And Moral Fiber Of Intellectuals For The Task They Have Implicitly Chosen For Themselves, That Is, To Articulate What Are The Basic Purposes And Goals Of Individual Achievement And Social Life; He Implies They Lack The Particular Skills And Abilities And Knowledge, And Fail To Provide Oversight And Programs And Efficiencies And Competencies And Budgets Essential To The Best Undertakings Of Government, Institutions, Businesses, Social Associations, And Even Families. The Intellectuals Have Failed Not Just To Provide Moral Leadership, But Also To Undertake A Proper Moral Education Of Society So That Society Itself Can Self Correct. It Is Difficult To Find A Commercial Writer In English Who Can Discuss So Perceptively And At Such Length How The Members Of Society As A Whole Are So Utterly Hapless At The Moral Business Of Life. Modern Elites Would Have You Believe That He Is Talking Only About The "Opinion" Leaders Which Dominate The Media; But He Is Talking As Well About The Leaders In Business, Education, Medicine, Civil Service, Law, Civic And Philanthropic Organizations, And Academic Leaders As Well, Including Social Sciences, Engineering, Science, And All The Other Departments Of The Great Universities Which Blithely Claim Immunity From Findings That They Are Ethically Impaired.
