Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. No Jacket. VOODOO FIRE IN HAITI BY RICHARD A. LOEDERER 1935 1ST 21 WOODCUTS. This book reminds me of the Haiti I once knew when I worked there almost 40 years ago a gem with rough edges. The book too is a gem albeit with some minor condition issues. Clearly, however, the 21 woodcuts, often sensuous if not downright erotic, carry the day as you will see, not to mention the many other in-text and paragraph header illustrations. I am pleased to offer: Voodoo Fire in Haiti, by Richard Loederer, translated by Desmond Ivo Vesey and with the illustrations by the Author. This medium-sized hard cover book (6 ¼ x 9 ¼ inches, 274 pages) was published by Doubleday, Doran and Company, dated 1935 and a First Edition (so stated). The book is bound in bright orange cloth, embossed with a jungle scene, and with large gilt lettering on the black spine. The endpapers are decorated with a map of Haiti, drawn by the Author. Condition: This book is in very good condition. The hard covers are a bit dust-dulled and show some staining along the gutters particularly on the rear board (please see the photos). There is a minimum of bumping and the gilt titles on the spine are still bold and fully legible. Inside, the news is much better. The book is unmarked inside and the pages and plates are clean and bright throughout. Both hinges are intact, and the binding is tight and sound. This book is not ex-library or a remainder.

In den WarenkorbHardcover. Zustand: Good. Front panel of jacket still looks impressive, despite some scuffing & loss to its corners, spine has considerable loss, plain back panel is worn & marked, with loss at corners. Extensive tape repairs around spine on reverse of jacket. Boards are rather worn, top outer corner of page block bumped, small light mark at lower outer tip of pp. 62-74. Despite these faults, the book still looks good, remains pleasant to handle & read, & the wood-cut illustrations remain striking.
