Third volume, Italian only, of the series conceived to systematically illustrate the cultural and artistic heritage of the Vatican, dedicated to the prestigious Gregorian Etruscan Museum, instituted by Pope Gregory XVI and inaugurated in 1837. The int…roductory part traces the complex events relating to the formation of the collection: the activity of acquisition and donations, the expository set-up conceived over the years and the enlargement of the interiors. Then follows an essay that focuses on the history of the Etruscan civilization, by analysing historical-cultural aspects developed in different historical periods. Core of the volume is the rich photographic apparatus, divided in a chronological order the Iron Age, the Orientalizing period, the Archaic Age, the Classical Age, the Hellenistic Age , which contains an extensive selection of Etruscan artefacts: ampoules, bracelets, amphorae, statues, mirrors and candle holders, illustrated through evocative whole page colour images, on an elegant black background, exalting their details. Each section contains the charts of the artefacts, with technical data, such as location, size, material, origin and dating, as well as accurate descriptions of the depicted subjects. A basic bibliography on the Museum closes the volume, together with the references related to the analytical charts.
