Leather. Zustand: Fair. T. J. Ricauti (illustrator). A scarce collection of plates depicting plans, sections and perspective views of various buildings. An important work in the picturesque style. Ricauti was determined to improve the appearance of buildings where he felt much then contemporary work was jarring and out of kilter with its surroundings. These plates were intended to be inspirational as to what he belived was best practice. "The Picturesque and Pleasing Appearance of Rough Wood, Thatch, etc. When Applied as the Only Decorations of Rural Buildings". Unfortunately, incomplete, missing eight of the original plates. But very rare. In need of washing the plates to improve their appearance but well worth the effort. In a contemporary half straight grain morocco binding with marbled boards. Externally, a trifle rubbed, with wear and chipping to the extremities. Rear joint is starting and the front board is held by the cords only. Internally, binding is a little strained in places, and is lacking eight plates. Heavy tide marks, ink marks and foxing throughout. Fair. book.
