Fortsetzung der chronologisch nach Herrschern geordneten, detaillierten Türken-Chronik, hier der Zeitraum von 1664 bis 1700 mit ausführlicher Darstellung des Großen Türkenkrieges" von 1682 bis 1699. Leather title label on smooth spine. Vellum slightly soiled, some pages with some minor stains but on the whole a fine/good copy. Rycaut ( London 1629 - Hamburg 1700) wrote this study on the Greek and Armenian Churches at the command of king Charles II; as stated in the title of the first - English - edition ( London, John Starkey 1679). The Middelburg edition is the first French translation . The author , being in diplomatic service at Constantinopel and Smyrna, was one of the first in Western Europe to describe and understand the difficulties of the Greek Church at that time nearly being crushed between Turkish and Catholic beliefs.…

Venezia, Presso Combi & La Noù, 1672, in-4, pergamena coeva rinforzata al dorso, con titolo manoscritto, pp. (16), 296. Doppio frontespizio: tipografico, con marca (Minerva assisa che impugna lancia e scudo, attributo: la civetta) e calcografico, con tavola incisa in rame da suor Isabella Piccini del Convento di S. Croce a Venezia, autrice anche delle 17 (su 18) illustrazioni nel testo + una vignetta. Fregi ed iniziali xilografici. Minime mancanze al margine del piatto posteriore, che ha la cerniera allentata. Qualche brunitura. A questa bella edizione veneziana riccamente illustrata, apparsa pochi anni dopo l'originale inglese (distrutta dall'incendio di Londra la 1a edizione del 1666, fa testo la 2a del 1668) manca purtroppo la carta S4, sostituita da facsimile perfettamente calligrafato a mano, ma privo d'illustrazione; conseguentemente anche il testo (sia al recto che al verso) seppur completo, è disposto diversamente che nell'originale (infatti i richiami non corrispondono), poichè questa prevedeva lo spazio dedicato alla parte incisa. Ricordiamo come curiosità che Sebastiano Combi si associò dal 1650 a Giovanni La Nou(e), olandese di origine francese, stabilitosi a Venezia nel 1646-47.…
