Each volume is bound in black textured full-leather with six gilt bands to the spine, and gilt decorated edges to both front and back boards. All edges and interior endpapers marbled. With thirty-three engraved plates - eleven in each volume. All plates present, as called for - some have a degree of foxing. Many other smaller engravings within the text. Edges of boards rubbed and worn especially at the edges of the spines - commensurate with age and handling over the last 180+ years. Corners of boards rubbed and worn. All pages tightly bound. Interior pages generally clean, but with some light foxing and browning throughout. Please note that there is some water staining affecting the last 100 pages or so of Vol. II - the text is still quite legible though. Each volume has an ownership bookplate 'Wilfred Sanderson' on the front pastedown. Original integral reading ribbons to each volume. Spines to all three volumes tight. No cracking to the bindings whatsoever despite the size and age of the books. ***Each volume 260mm x 170mm. 3476 pages in total.
