Including biographical sketches of 'eminent and distinguished natives' of Bristol, with the life of Brennus, of Bibert, Sebastian Cabot and Ann Yearsley relayed, among numerous others.Illustrated with twelve engraved plates; three to volume I, and nine to volume II. Collated, complete.Volume I is the work of John Corry, volume II the work of Rev. John Evans.Retaining the original half titles.Two pages of advertisements to rear of volume II. Rebound in quarter cloth with paper covered boards, and endpapers renewed. Small bump to tail of volume I back strip, otherwise externally excellent. Minor marks to boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages significantly age toned due to paper type, with scattered spotting throughout. Very Good. book.

He was the son of Benjamin Evans of Lydney, Gloucestershire. He matriculated on 4 April 1789, aged twenty-one, at Jesus College, Oxford, and graduated BA in 1792. He kept a boarding-school at Colston's Parade, Bristol, and in 1807 at Winterbourne Court, near Bristol. He was the author of A Tour through Part of North Wales (1800) and Letters Written during a Tour through South Wales (1804). He also wrote volume 12, on North Wales, and contributed to volume 11 of The Beauties of England and Wales, compiled by E. W. Brayley and J. Britton. At the time of his last publication, in April 1812, Evans was residing at Delancy Place, Camden Town, London. He had intended to write the account of south Wales for the Beauties, but died shortly after the completion of the first part of the undertaking." (ODNB).

26 + [2] pp., 12mo. The title-page has at its head: 'The End of the Good Man Peace.', and carries a quotation from Blair's 'Grave'. The sermon is preceded by a six-page preface by 'J. EVANS', dated from 'Islington, Feb. 11, 1812.', incorporating Smeaton's obituary from the Monthly Repository, December 1811. Following the eighteen pages of the sermon are two pages of advertisements for books by Evans and Kingsford. Stitched and unbound. In good condition, lightly aged, with slight spotting to title-leaf. Kingsford begins his sermon with Smeaton's obituary from the Monthly Repository of December 1811. Only three copies on OCLC WorldCat or COPAC: at the British Library, Cardiff University and the National Library of Wales.
