Green cloth covered boards with blind stamped decoration and gilt lettering and decoration to the spine, still bright. Board corners have minor bumping. Hinges, joints and binding remain relatively tight. The print block has gilt on all three exposed edges, still bright. The print block is clean with minimal foxing. The tissue guard for the frontis piece and title page is intact. There is a small pink decorative sticker in the top left hand corner of the front paste down bearing a name and address. Copyr.

Three small works bookending Victorian life - two of them: Little Henry and his Bearer, and Mike, The Shop-Boy, tales for children, and one, The Better Land, a work on the Biblical promises of heaven for those approaching old age and contemplating death. All bound in original cloth, with intricate gilt motifs to the front boards. Volume one and two both feature a monochrome frontispiece. This collection features a first edition title in Mike, The Shop-Boy, and in the very scarce The Better Land - our copy being earlier than the only record on Jisc. Bound in original cloth. Externally, generally smart. Moderate rubbing to boards. Occasional moderate marks to boards. Ink inscriptions to front free endpapers. Vol2 front hinge starting. The odd mark to endpapers. Internally, vol1 and 2 firmly bound, with occasional strain. Vol3 binding moderately weak between pp.26-27. Pages generally bright and clean, with moderate scattered spotting throughout.
