The first edition of this work in the publisher's original pictorial cloth binding, with pictorial gilt to the front board. Binder's label of Burn & Co. to the rear paste down. Alfred Rimmer (1829-1893) was an architect, travel writer and illustrator. In this work, he provides a history of the ancient streets and domestic architecture of England, which he has illustrated with 150 drawings, engraved by J. D. Cooper. A charming work with an introduction by the Very Rev. J. S. Howson. In the publisher's original pictorial cloth binding. Externally sound, with a small stain to the front board and some fading to the spine. Shelf wear to the extremities and head and tail of the spine. Hinges are strained but remain firm. Pages 69 to 76 are starting to come loose; the rest of the pages are firmly bound. Pages are bright with the odd spot. The top of the title page has been cut off, not affecting the text. Good. book.
