(172*104 mm). Richards, William, General Baptist minister and historian, who in 1803, married Emiah Owens. She strongly supported his literary enterprises, but died on 3 January 1805, aged twenty-nine. Profoundly distressed, Richards could not for several years go out into society. He must have received callers, however; and in these years he produced historical essays-collected in The Welsh Nonconformists' Memorial (1820) See ODNB for a full Bio. Title continues: containing Sketches of the Founders of the Protestant Dissenting Interest in Wales. To which are prefixed An Essay on Druidism and Introduction of the Gospel into Britain with an Appendix including the Authors minor pieces and his Last Views of the Christian Religion.

It begins: 'Enclosed as promised we are sending you an interleaved Catalogue of the Books, with the titles of the "Others" written opposite to These books were enumerated in the list sent to Messrs Sotheby's, but were omitted (as not being so valuable) when making up the catalogue.' The letter continues with points relating to the lotting, before concluding: 'We are sending this letter together with your catalogues with our Porter (Mr Knapp) to save postage. | We have sent off the Rev. Key's & Mr Fremlins catalogues as desired.' Catalogue: In 8vo notebook with manuscript title on cover: 'Trottescliffe Rectory Sale | Nov. 30th & Dec. 1st 1920 | Catalogue of the Books with notes & additiona Numbers'. Consists of pp.11-38 (lots 163-614) of the printed catalogue, interleaved with leaves carrying 11pp. of manuscript 'Particulars of the "Others"'. It was the Library etc of C.W. Shepherd, vicar and traveller (Iceland etc). The printed catalogue is scarce, with no copy at the British Library or on COPAC.

At the conclusion of the text, a page of "Notices" states: "In the present work, the substance of the former [Yaradee] is retained, the statistics varied by time being corrected; whilst the fuller history of the colonization enterprise, the advanced conditions of Liberia, and the present aspect of the whole subject, is presented by copious additions and revisions." Not in *Catalog of the Blockson Collection*, but see *Blockson* 10237 for Freeman's *Yaradee; A Plea for Africa,* published in 1836. A beautiful copy.
