Spurgeon Green, sometime vicar of St. Mark's Marylebone. Cutts' valuable essay was written originally as a supplement to the Clerical Journal. Its importance was recognised immediately and he was urged to produce a revised and augmented version with additional woodcuts and the ten famous plates.
