Also has a smallish stamp scattered throughout the books at random. Ink library category to base of spine of each book. The four books are numbered Volumes I-IV but are comprised as follows: Volume 1 - has the life of the author and Volume1 1 Part 1; Volume 2 is Volume 1 Part II; Volume 3 is Volume II and Volume 4 is Volume III. Text blocks have uncut edges. Burgundy boards with gilt to spine. A very solid set with the only significant flaws being the library markings. . Roger Ascham was an English scholar and didactic writer, famous for his prose style, his promotion of the vernacular, and his theories of education. He served in the administrations of Edward VI, Mary I, and Elizabeth I, having earlier acted as Elizabeth's tutor in Greek and Latin between 1548 and 1550.
