David Simpson's theological address to "the disciples of Thomas Paine". Simpson defends the truth and divine inspiration of the Christian Scriptures, argues for the necessity of revealed religion against rationalist critiques, and seeks to reaffirm Christian belief and practice among wavering readers. He offers a response to Thomas Paine"s 'The Age of Reason' and to other similar sceptical works challenging the authority of the Bible.Lacking front free endpaper.Published in the civil parish of Burslem, Stoke on Trent, in the early 19th century by Tregortha, a major figure in the book trade of the region, and provided printing and binding services. Light rubbing to back strip head and tail and joints, otherwise externally excellent. Hinges strained, but generally firmly held. Lacking front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound.
