Signature and bookplate.As a young man Anders Jahan Retzius (1742-1821) studied at the university in Lund, after which he worked as an pharmacist. Eventually he returned to the university where he became professor of natural history with responsibility for the botanical garden. From 1782 he was also a member of the Swedish Academy of Sciences. In "Försök til mineral-rikets upställning" the minerals are strictly arranged in classes and orders. The system is mainly copied from Cronstedt, from whom the book title is also borrowed. Retzius' mineralogy is however also updated with newer research findings.…

A second edition was printed in 1778 and the work was translated into Latin in 1771 and German in 1777. At the time Retzius (1742-1821) made a living as writer of textbooks and the present work was commissioned by Collegium medicum, who was in need of a pharmacological compendium. Retzius eventually became professor of natural history and economics at the University of Lund.…
