Edouard Wyss-Dunant war Leiter der Vormonsun-Expedition 1952. Raymond Lambert und Tenzing Norgay erreichten eine Höhe von 8600 Metern, wegen schlechter werdender Witterung und Problemen mit den Atemmasken mußten sie ihren Besteigungsversuch jedoch abbrechen (weitere Mitglieder der Expedition u.a.: René Aubert, Leon Flory, André Roch). Gabriel Chevalley war Leiter der 2. Schweizer Expedition (Nachmonsun) 1952, ebenfalls auf der Südroute erreichten Lambert und Tenzing eine Höhe von ca. 8100 Meter, anhaltender Sturm und extreme Kälte erzwangen den Rückzug (weitere Mitglieder dieser Expedition waren u.a. Norman G. Dyhrenfurth, Ernst Reiss). John Hunt, der die im folgenden Jahr 1953 erfolgreiche britische Expedition (Erstbesteiger Tenzing Norgay und Edmund P. Hillary) leitete, antwortete auf das von den Mitgliedern der Schweizer Everest-Expedition gesandte Glückwunsch-Telegramm: "To you - a good half of the glory". Keine deutsche Übersetzung erschienen.
