The monograph focuses on unique carved stucco (stuck/ganch) wall panels excavated from medieval palaces at the Afrasiab archaeological site in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. The text specifically studies the highly complex geometric, vegetal, and zoomorphic ornamental carvings dating primarily back to the Samanid dynasty (9th-10th centuries). The Afrasiyab settlement (ancient Samarkand) yields new discoveries of cultural and artistic monuments from the past every year. The carved stucco from the Samanid palace (9th century) has gained worldwide renown. Between 1965 and 1968, new discoveries were made at Afrasiyab—among them, a unique architectural monument from the Samanid era: a domed hall featuring carved stucco of exceptional beauty. This book, authored by archaeologist I.A. Akhrarov (Candidate of Historical Sciences) and Professor L.I. Rempel (Doctor of Art History), is dedicated to these discoveries. Table of Contents I.
