Presumed early reprint from the 1860s. 126pp. William Reid (1822-1881), born in Forfar, was a minister who left Presbyterianism for the Plymouth Brethren. He was also an author and editor of journals such as The British Messenger, The British Herald, and the British Evangelist. He collected hymns and songs into a hymnal called The Praise Book, but his best known work is probably the present work, The Blood of Jesus. The book is bound in the original red cloth covered boards with black titling on the spine and blind stamped titling against a gold background with black designs on the front board. The case of the book is in good condition with shelf wear, soiling and some staining to the boards. There is a strip of loss of colour running across the front board and a 1" x 3/8" strip of damage and loss of the cloth on the top edge of the front board. The corners and spine ends are bumped and the spine is faded. The contents are tight and clean apart from a few scattered marks and some foxing to the first and last few pages, including the title-page. There is some soiling on the title-page, first page of the preface and last page of the book. There is a gold name stamp on the front free endpaper.…
