This is a work close to the source, not a modern historical study, published for the first time from an unpublished manuscript. Antonio Nunes Ribeiro Sanches lived in the eighteenth century (1699-1783). He was an internationally respected physician and a member of the Royal Society of London and the Russian Academy of Sciences. He converted to Judaism in London in 1726, later again rejoining the Catholic church and finally becoming a deist. He had a peripatetic career, studying in various countries and spending more than 15 years in Russia; he died in Paris in 1783, where he was associated with the encyclopedists.
