Hardcover. Zustand: Good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: No Dust Jacket As Issued. First Edition. "Offers a detailed examination of the economic and social impacts of competition during the height of the industrial revolution. Delves into the familiar facts of industrial life, presenting a comprehensive analysis of how compeitive forces shape the marketplace and influence societal structures. Remains relevant for anyone seeking a deeper understanding of the foundations of contemporary economic systems and the enduring challenges of balancing compeition with social well-being." - online review. "Sidney Armor Reeve (1866-1941) was a writer and professor of Steam and Hydraulic Engineering who held over fifty patents. He founded the scientific field of social energetics, which was later expanded on by Frederick Soddy in his book 'The Role of Money.' He was inspired by reading Henry George to investigate sociology and came to the conclusion that the mathematics and reasoning which applied to entropy, energy and thermodynamnics in steam boilers applied equally to the social body." - Wikipedia. "Although as early as 1909 he had assembled sufficient calculations and data to found a science of sociology, Reeve was never permitted to lecture, debate or present his theory, thus meeting the same conspiracy of silence that greeted Henry George himself." - Irving M, Kass in Land And Freedom, January-February, 1942. xx, 617 p. Index. Illustrated with diagrams and black and white photos. Prior owner's name, Lawrence Abbott, inside front board. Presumably this is the same Lawrence Abbott (1902-1985) who taught economics at Columbia University and Union College for many years. No less than Murray Rothbard referred to Abbott's book "Quality and Competition" as "a masterpiece" and "one of the best books I have read in years". Average wear to original navy cloth. Back hinge just starting. No dust jacket, presumably as issued. A rare first edition example of this significant work. ; 8vo.…
