Numerous illustrations and vignettes block-printed in black, red, green, and yellow, many full or double-page within text, one double-page illustration by Florence Harrison (with her signature printed to corner), others by E. Dorothy Rees and L. A. Govey. Publisher's original blue cloth, titled in midnight blue with clock vignette to upper board, in the original pictorial dust-jacket by W. Marks. Prize inscription to one John Styles in blue ink to front free end-paper. Loss to lower section of jacket, and to spine-tips, small closed tear to upper joint, slight soiling to upper panel. Corners slightly bumped, binding square and strong. Contents clean and quite bright. A very good copy in good jacket. A rare toy book, illustrated by Florence Harrison and E. Dorothy Rees. Florence Harrison (1877-1955) was an accomplished illustrator of children's book in both Pre-Raphaelite and Art Nouveau styles. She illustrated works by Christina Rossetti, William Morris, and Alfred Tennyson. Her illustration to this volume evokes the fin-de-siécle poster style that she was celebrated for. E. Dorothy Rees (1891-1967) was a similarly accomplished writer and illustrator of children's books, best known for her illustrations of small animals and little girls. A rather sweet rarity. Scarce. We locate one copy of this edition world-wide, at the National Library of Scotland.
