Two vintage publicity photographs of comic actress and singer Martha Raye, dated 1940 and 1941, respectively. One with a date stamp on the verso, and the other with the stamp of studio photographer Ray Jones. Martha Raye signed with Paramount Pictures in 1936, going on to appear in a number of film musicals and comedies. During World War II she performed extensively with the USO, and was awarded the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award in 1969 at the 41st Academy Awards for her efforts-becoming the first woman to receive the award. From the archive of noted Hollywood still photographer Ray Jones. Born in Wisconsin on January 1, 1901, Jones worked for Paramount Pictures in the early 1930s, and went on to be the head of the still photography department at Universal Pictures in 1935, where he worked well into the 1950s. 8 x 10 inches. Final script for the 1938 film. The S.S. Gigantic, an expensive, "radio-powered" ocean liner prepares to race its rival, the ocean liner S.S. Colossal, across the Atlantic, from New York to Cherbourg, in two and a half days. Sabotage and romantic hijinks ensue on both sides. Bob Hope's first feature film appearance. Self wrappers. Title page present, dated September 11, 1937, noted as FINAL WHITE SCRIPT, stamped FILE COPY and MASTER FILE, noted as production No. 1157. 145 leaves, with last page of text numbered D-54. Mimeograph duplication, rectos only, with blue revision pages throughout, dated 10-15-37. Pages Very Good plus, with the title page and last three leaves separated from the binding, side stitched with two staples.

Draft script for the 1941 film. Specially bound copy belonging to screenwriter and associate producer Jerry Wald, with his name in gilt on the spine. Eleven reference photographs from the film bound in variously among the script pages, with nine pages of song lyrics ribbon typescript copy pages, and manuscript pencil annotations on two pages, and copied annotations on five pages. Two Navy seamen borrow money to wager on their ship for the upcoming gunnery practice with the knowledge that the current gunnery champ has just transferred aboard their ship, unaware his enlistment is ending before the contest. Shot on location in Honolulu and San Diego. Bound in beige cloth with brown quarter leather binding. Title page present, with credits for screenwriters Jerry Wald and Richard Macaulay, music by Arthur Schwartz and lyrics by Al Dubin. 182 leaves, with last page of text numbered 138. Mimeograph duplication with the exception of ribbon typescript copy song lyric pages, rectos only, with blue revision pages throughout, dated variously between 4/12/41 and 6/13/41. Pages Near Fine, binding Very Good, with moderate rubbing to the spine and corners.

Bold "Bless you Richard / Martha / Raye" in black fineline on a heavy stock 5" X 3" card, dated by her 1 May 1968 at upper right Fine. With original transmittal envelope. Lamour boldly signs a heavy stock 5" X 3" card in black fineline. This superb pair are accompanied by an outstanding 10" X 8" glossy black-and-white photograph, a modern reprint (likely 1970s) closeup group shot of the cast of the 1938 musical comedy film "Big Broadcast of 1938 -- (left to right) Ben Blue, Lamour, W.W. Fields, Shirley Ross, Bob Hope and Raye. Fine.
