Zustand: Very Good. London, George Routledge & Sons, Limited, 1916. Octavo, viii, 53, [1] (colophon) pages with a map plus 31 pages of plates (mainly from photographs). Gilt-decorated buckram lightly rubbed and marked; edges slightly foxed, with minimal foxing elsewhere; free endpapers a little tanned; an excellent copy. Provenance: Arthur Ridley Reed, with his contemporary ownership signature on the front free endpaper (along with the later one of E. Cantwell, 1937). 35236 Bombadier Reed embarked with the 1st Field Artillery Brigade in November 1917; he served in France, and was given leave with pay from 17 January to 15 December 1919 to study theology at King's College, London. However, he embarked for Australia on 1 August 1919. There is a letter dated 23 July 1948 from the Department of External Affairs in Reed's digitised service records: it states that he 'was a former resident of the Territory of New Guinea and is thought to have lost his life at the sinking of the Japanese Transport "Montevideo Maru" on 1st July, 1942'.
