An attractive copper engraving of St Radegund, taken from Ranbeck's "Benedictine Saints throughout the year". This image was engraved by Kihan after J. Umbach. With small text in Latin below the image extolling her virtues. Image is clean and tidy, with some foxing and small edge-wear to the border only. Impressed area 125 x 90mm, sheet is 200 x 145 mm. Original copy. St Radegund (520-587). was a Thuringian princess and Frankish queen, who founded the Abbey of the Holy Cross at Poitiers. She is the patroness saint of several churches in France and England and of Jesus College, Cambridge, whose full name is 'The College of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Saint John the Evangelist and the glorious Virgin Saint Radegund'. She was closely associated with Gregory of Tours and Venantius Fortunatus. .

Contemporary vellum, spine in five compartments separated by raised bands. Profusely illustrated with 93 full-page enfravings (one for each day plus a frontispiece). This is volume 4 (of 4) of the Holy Benedictine Year series, published in Augsburg in 1710. The four volumes include an engraving and brief descriptions of life of three hundred and sixty-five saints, from the order of H. Ertz-Vatters Benedicti. Each volume includes three months of the year; this volume includes October, November, and December. . The volume is in only fair condition, clearly having been much used. There are several internal tape repairs, some old damp stains, generally not affecting the copper-plates, most of which are in very good to near fine condition, although several are torn or stained.
