Edward Bannerman Ramsay (1793-1872), usually referred to as Dean Ramsay, was a clergyman of the Scottish Episcopal Church, and Dean of Edinburgh in that communion from 1841. He is probably best kno…wn as the author of Reminiscences of Scottish Life and Character, which had gone through 22 editions at his death. The work is a collection of memoirs and reflections that delve into the cultural and social tapestry of Scotland, specifically highlighting the peculiar customs, humor, and daily lives of its people, informed by the author's personal experiences and historical observations. The book has been semi-professionally rebacked and recased in the original full leather boards and given a new leather spine. There is no titling on the spine, and this repair is probably from the mid to late 20th C. The leather on the boards has noticeable scuffing and small pieces of leather are missing from the corner tips. The contents are tight and clean apart from a few small marks and a little scattered light foxing. The half-title and title-page are a bit more heavily foxed and the author has inscribed and signed the half-title page thus: "From the author E.B. Ramsay. Edinburgh March 24th 1871.". Inscribed and Signed by Author.
