Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - 'Makers of the Nineteenth Century; Sir Robert Peel' provides a comprehensive and scholarly examination of the life and political legacy of one of Britain's most influential statesmen. As a central figure in the transformation of nineteenth-century Britain, Sir Robert Peel is explored here through his pivotal roles as Prime Minister and Home Secretary. This work delves into his instrumental contributions to the modernization of British governance, including the founding of the Metropolitan Police Force and his decisive, if controversial, leadership during the repeal of the Corn Laws.Written with historical precision, the biography situates Peel within the broader context of the Industrial Revolution and the shifting socio-political landscape of the Victorian era. The authors analyze his complex personality, his evolving political ideology, and his enduring impact on the development of the Conservative Party. This study serves as an essential resource for those interested in British parliamentary history, the history of economic reform, and the biographies of the individuals who shaped the modern state. Through a detailed narrative of his administrative genius and political courage, the book captures the essence of a man whose career defined an era of profound change. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - 'Sir Robert Peel' by A.A.W. Ramsay provides an in-depth and scholarly exploration of the life and career of one of the nineteenth century's most significant British statesmen. As a twice-serving Prime Minister and a foundational figure in the modern Conservative Party, Sir Robert Peel's influence on the political landscape of the United Kingdom was profound and lasting. This biography meticulously details his rise to power and his instrumental role in shaping the administrative and social structures of the Victorian era.The work examines Peel's landmark achievements, including his tenure as Home Secretary where he established the Metropolitan Police Force, a reform that forever changed the nature of law enforcement. Central to the narrative is an analysis of Peel's evolving political philosophy, most famously demonstrated by his controversial decision to repeal the Corn Laws-a move that prioritised national economic stability over party unity. Ramsay offers a compelling portrait of a man known for his intellectual rigour, pragmatic governance, and deep commitment to the state. This volume is an essential study for those interested in British parliamentary history, the evolution of free trade, and the personal character of a leader who navigated the complexities of a nation in the midst of the Industrial Revolution. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
