Hardcover. Wide 12mo. Green cloth with gilt spine lettering, pictorial dust jacket. 56pp, (4pp). Numerous illustrations, genealogical chart. Fine/near fine. Superb and tight first edition of this account of the Tar Heel background of the Illinois governor and two-time Democratic presidential candidate (1900-65) -- and a choice presentation copy, as the half-title page is handsomely inscribed and signed large and bold in black ink " For Adlai / from his / Aunt Buffie / Christmas 1969." Elizabeth "Buffie" Stevenson Ives (1898-1994) was the sole sibling of the governor, who named his eldest child after himself -- Ives's nephew was Adlai E. Stevenson III (1930-2021), who served as U.S. senator from Illinois (1970-81). A better association copy could hardly be imagined.
