The first edition of a fascinating travel and political account of Armenia, the first British work devoted to the subject, and written four years before its first independence The first edition of Travel and Politics in Armenia, an intriguing travelogue and handbook on Armenia in the early twentieth century, written by brothers Noel Buxton and Harold Buxton, with an introduction by Viscount Bryce and a contributory chapter by Aram Raffi on Armenian culture and history. Published in 1914, immediately before the First World War and Armenian Genocide, and four years before it gained its independence from the Ottoman, Russian and Persian Empires in the short-lived First Republic. In the publisher's original blue cloth. Contains a frontispiece and all other sixteen plates, with plate adjoining p.70 tipped in to rear pastedown. Collated complete. Despite its remoteness and lack of railways making it a obscure travel destination at the time of writing, the Buxtons demonstrate why people should visit the Middle Eastern country due to its fascinating history and culture.
