Prima edizione italiana di questa annata completa della più celebre ed importante opera periodica ottocentesca italiana, dedicata alle ultime invenzioni e conoscenze in materia ingegneristica ed architettonica. Il giornale raccoglie decine di dotti articoli scritti dai più celebri ingegneri, architetti ed agronomi italiani (e non) dell'ottocento, sotto l'attenta cura del grande ingegnere e divulgatore genovese, Raffaele Pareto (Genova 23 luglio 1812 Roma 28 aprile 1882), padre del famosissimo sociologo ed economista Vilfredo Pareto. Raffaele nacque in una nobile famiglia genovese figlio di Gian Benedetto Pareto e Aurelia Spinola e portava il titolo di marchese. Nonostante la sua storia famigliare, Raffaele fin dalla prima gioventù aderì al movimento mazziniano. Proprio a causa delle sue idee mazziniano, nel 1830, lasciò l'Italia per iniziare un periodo d'esilio. Prima fu in Francia, a Marsiglia poi in Soana e Loira ed infine a Parigi dove conobbe Marie Metenier che divenne sua moglie e madre dei suoi figli. Esperto di ingegneria idraulica e civile fu in Francia che iniziò a metter in pratica le sue conoscenze e a farsi conoscere come abile ingegnere con diverse bonifiche nella zona di Lamotte-Beuvron. Quando nel 1848, il governo della Seconda Repubblica francese decise di costruire il canale detto della Sauldre tra Blancafort e Lamotte-Beuvron, decise di chiamare Pareto. Nel 1853 rientrò in Italia chiamato ad occupare la cattedra di lingue della Regia Scuola di Marina di Genova, carica che occupò fino al 1859. Nel 1860 gli fu assegnata la cattedra di Agricoltura e Contabilità all'Istituto tecnico Leardi di Casale Monferrato. Nel 1861 il Ministero della Pubblica Istruzione gli conferì il titolo di ingegnere "honoris causa" per l'alto livello scientifico e tecnico delle sue pubblicazioni. A lui si deve, infatti, oltre a numerose pubblicazione, sia in italiano che in francese, la direzione la più importante pubblicazione italiana in materia ingegneristica e architettonica, "Giornale Dell'ingegnere-Architetto Ed Agronomo" che uscito per poco più di 20 anni, raccoglie tutte le più recenti ed innovative invenzioni ed accorgimenti delle materie. Scrive Serena Pesenti, nella voce dedicata a Pareto nel Dizionario Biografico degli Italiani edito da Treccani, Volume 81 (2014): "Anche nel Giornale dell'ingegnere architetto e agronomo, che diresse dal 1860 al 1867, oltre a numerosissime note redazionali, rubriche, traduzioni, bibliografie e articoli di argomento tecnico-scientifico pubblicò molteplici saggi sui temi della storia dell'architettura e del restauro allora al centro del dibattito, ponendo particolare attenzione all'illustrazione dei monumenti (come in Dello stile barocco nei fabbricati e nei monumenti della città di Genova, V, 1857, pp. 311-331; Considerazioni generali sull'arte, IX, 1861, pp. 302-340; Duomo di Novara, ibid., pp. 349-353; Palazzo Sauli a Genova, ibid., pp. 353 s.; Duomo di Casale, ibid., pp. 466-470; Lo stile barocco e la facciata di S. [.] Per la fama di esperto nelle bonifiche (già nel 1842, quando era a Parigi, era stato nominato nella commissione per le irrigazioni, nella sezione di agronomia e tecnologia del VII Congresso scientifico italiano), grazie all'aiuto degli illustri colleghi ingegneri Pietro Paleocapa, Elia Lombardini e Quintino Sella, nel 1861 gli fu conferita per decreto reale la laurea ad honorem in ingegneria. Il titolo fu la premessa per una brillante carriera direttiva, prima al ministero dell'Agricoltura, industria e commercio, poi al ministero dei Lavori pubblici. Presso il ministero dell'Agricoltura, nel 1862 fu nominato capo divisione di II classe (si occupava tra l'altro di bonifiche e irrigazioni); nel 1864 ispettore centrale; nel 1866 fu richiamato al posto di capodivisione di II classe. Nel 1869 passò al ministero dei Lavori pubblici, con la nomina a ispettore di II classe nel Genio civile e a membro del Consiglio superiore; nel 1870 divenne membro della commissione ministeriale incaricata di studi per la bonificazione dell'Agro brindisino; dal 1873 fu presidente della terza sezione del Comizio agrario di Roma. Nel 1876 fu ancora chiamato come ispettore di II classe a far parte del Consiglio superiore dei Lavori pubblici e della Commissione permanente consultiva presso la Direzione generale delle opere idrauliche. Pareto", probably the professor of physics at Turin and Naples (1826-1889) who, like Pareto, was an exiled liberal politician. The father of the famous economist and sociologist Vilfredo Pareto, Raffaele Pareto (1812-1882) was a… prominent civil engineer whose career began in France, where he had sought exile following his involvement with Giuseppe Mazzini's movement for Italian unification in the early 1830s. When Pareto returned to Italy in the 1850s, he pursued his brilliant engineering and administrative career, culminating as central inspector of drainage and irrigation. Pareto's published work was mainly concerned with the technical aspect of engineering. This essay is one of a few of a more theoretical nature, on the misuse of averages in the physical and social sciences. Quarto. Original plain buff wrappers.
