Hardcover. Zustand: Good. No Jacket. 2nd Edition. A TREATISE ON LIGHT BY R.A. HOUSTOUN COLOURED SPECTRUM PLATE 328 DIAGRAMS 1921. Well, I am finally running out of nice books from the estate of a college professor who collected vintage science and technology books, a lot of which I now have listed. Here s another, titled: A Treatise on Light, by R.A. Houstoun. This small hard cover book (6 x 8 ¾ inches, 480 pages) was published by the distinguished London publishing house of Longmans, Green and Co., dated 1921, a New Edition, as noted on the title page. The book is bound in dark green cloth with embossed titles on the cover and once gilt titles on the spine. There is a lovely tissue-guarded coloured spectrum plate as the frontispiece and the book has another 328 diagrams. Condition: This book is in good condition. The hard covers are showing some edge wear and rubbing along the gutter and the corners and spine tips are also bumped. There are a number of small worn spots where the cloth is worn or missing including what are evidently a few places gnawed on by mice along the top edge. I was tempted not to list it for that reason but the book is quite a scarce item and the damage is not that severe (please see the photos). The gilt titles on the spine are tarnished and the gilt no longer really shiny. Inside, there is a neatly inked former owner s name on the front endpaper and both endpapers are showing some acid staining from the binding glues. The interior pages, amazingly enough, are all still quite bright, without any real age toning and no foxing at all. Both hinges are intact but the binding feels a bit loose although holding together very well. This book is not ex-library or a remainder. …
