The Petition of the Governors and Trustees of the Free Grammar School of King Edward VI at Shrewsbury, a vanishingly scarce petition for the Privy Council, including related past petitions, believed to have been published in circa 1872, with this being their 1871 petition. Rebound in burgundy cloth. No institituional copies of this work are available in the UK. Contains the bookplate of Michael de Courcey Peele to the verso of the title leaf, beleived to have been the school bailiff. Following the 1871 Public Schools act after the Clarendon Comission, seven of the country's boarding schools, including Shrewsbury Grammar School, were to formally abide by Government boundaries and reforms. This petition protests against the changes along with a record of the past royal decrees and statutes proving their independence. Rebound in burgundy cloth.
