Located in the area known in the 17th century as the Province of West Jersey, purchased in 1682 by William Penn and a group of Quakers, Atlanic County was split off from neighboring Gloucester County in 1686. it is bordered by Ocean County on the north, Glouceser on the west, Cape May County to the south and the Atlantic Ocean on the east. This anecdotal history contains, among other useful pieces if information, a roster of Atlantic County men who served in the American Revolution, information on place names, the Lenni Lenape native tribe, notable places, buildings and people.
