In den WarenkorbDisbound. Zustand: Near Fine. R. H. Codrington (illustrator). An illustrated copy of this work of anthropology on The Melanesians by R. H. Codrington. A facsimile of the first edition published in 1891.In the publisher's original cloth with the original unclipped dust wrapper. With a frontispiece, 32 monochrome vignettes and a fold out map of Melanesia.Illustrations consist of photographs, maps, sketches from the author and Rev. H. H. Minchin, Museums and other sources. Collated complete. This work is written by priest and anthropologist R. H. Codrington. Codrington was the first to make a study of Melanesian society and culture and his work is still held as a classic example of ethnography. Codrington's ethnographical approach was supported by his time as a missionary where he worked as a headmaster of a Melanesian school and he believed in the importance of living closely with those he studied to better understand the society, languages and customs. This work documents the results of his observations made on the Islands and looks into the anthropology and folklore of The Melanesians. In the publisher's original cloth with the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally excellent with very minimal discolouration to the rear board and light spotting to the end papers. Very minor offsetting to the front end papers. The wrap is very smart with light sunning to the spine, minor handling marks and the odd chip. Internally firmly bound with bright and generally clean pages. Scattered spotting, heavier to the front and the rear. Spotting to the fore edge. Near Fine. book.
