Chase Spent His Early Political Career Supporting "A Wide Range Of Reform Causes: The Single Tax, Women's Suffrage, Birth Control And Socialism." Chase's Early Books, The Tragedy Of Waste (1925) And Your Money's Worth (1927), Were Notable For Their Criticism Of Corporate Advertising And Their Advocacy Of Consumer Protection. In 1929 Chase Co-Founded Consumers' Research, A Consumer Protection Advocacy Organization. In 1932, Chase Wrote A New Deal, Which Became Identified With The Economic Programs Of American President Franklin Roosevelt. Chase's 1938 Book The Tyranny Of Words Was An Early And Influential Popularization Of Alfred Korzybski's Theory Of General Semantics.

This book details Major Upton's two year journey to Arabia. As Borden (The Arab Horse, 1909) reports: ".a syndicate of three, composed of the Hon. Henry Caplin, Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Sandeman, M.P., and Mr. Hazelwood, a director of the Bank of England, agreed to send Major Upton to Aleppo to Mr. Skene, they to go into the desert and choose and secure the horses. It is reported that the final cost of the undertaking was £20,000 ($100,000).Both Skene and Upton were fine Arabic scholars, besides being excellent horsemen." He goes on to note that: "The results of Upton's visit were written in two books, 'Newmarket and Arabia,' a sketchy statement of early impressions, and a more serious work, 'Gleanings from the Desert of Arabia,' published after his death." in which he explored the language, history and culture of the Arabs in the first two parts, and the history and breeding of the horses in the third part. Previous book owner Spencer Charrington was an English brewer and Conservative politician. Charrington was the son of Nicholas Charrington and his wife Harriet Milward. His father was a brewer of the firm of Charringtons which was based at the Anchor Brewery in Mile End East London. Charrington was elected Member of Parliament for Mile End in 1885. He owed his election in the Conservative cause to the support of the large number of his brewery workers. He held the seat for nearly 20 years until his death at the age of 86, by which time he was the oldest member in the House of Commons.
